Squalane

Squalane is a lightweight, non-comedogenic oil derived from either plant sources like olives, sugarcane, or amaranth, or traditionally from shark liver oil.

In hair care, the plant-derived form is more commonly used, valued for its ability to deeply hydrate, nourish, and protect the hair and scalp without being greasy.

One of the primary benefits of Squalane is its superior ability to hydrate both the hair and scalp. It mimics the natural oils produced by the skin and hair, allowing it to absorb easily and lock in moisture without weighing hair down. This makes Squalane ideal for dry or damaged hair, as it helps restore moisture balance, leaving hair feeling soft, smooth, and well-nourished.

Squalane is also known for its ability to strengthen and protect the hair. It helps to prevent moisture loss, keeping the hair hydrated and flexible, which improves elasticity and reduces the risk of breakage. By providing a protective barrier on the hair shaft, Squalane shields hair from environmental damage such as pollution, UV rays, and heat styling, preserving hair’s natural shine and health.

Additionally, Squalane helps to smooth the hair cuticle, reducing frizz and flyaways. This makes it especially beneficial for those with coarse or curly hair, as it enhances manageability and adds a glossy, polished finish. Its lightweight nature means that it can be used without the fear of greasiness or build-up, making it suitable for all hair types, including fine hair.

Squalane also has soothing properties that benefit the scalp. It helps to nourish and calm a dry or irritated scalp, reducing dandruff and flakiness. By promoting a healthy scalp environment, Squalane supports the conditions needed for healthy hair growth.

Because of its high bioavailability and gentle nature, Squalane is often used in both leave-in treatments and conditioning products to provide deep hydration, shine, and protection without causing buildup.
